A variety of volunteer opportunities are available at KCUYC. Whether you're a individual seeking an opportunity a couple hours a week or a group of volunteers looking for a single day's project, KCUYC has something for you.

Individual and family volunteer opportunities include:

Daily Programming Mentors/Volunteers
Participate in the weekly programming through mentoring and providing help during the daily activities.
Volunteer commitment: 1 hour each week

Recreation / Fitness Training
Participate in the weekly programming through facilitating recreational activities and/or fitness training times. 
Volunteer commitment: 1 hour each week

Gardening / Food Prep
Assist KCUYC staff and students with preparing and maintaining the on-site community gardens. Assist with daily food preparation for student snacks/meals. 
Volunteer commitment: 1 hour each week

Organization & Filing
Provide office support through a variety of tasks such as filing reports, updating forms/filing systems, organizing books and resources, etc. 
Volunteer commitment: as available

General Maintenance / Minor Construction
Assist with ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the KCUYC facilities through a variety of basic tasks and/or limited construction projects. 
Volunteer commitment: varies

Van Drivers/Riders
Provide transportation for the students to and from the Center in the afternoons.
Volunteer commitment: 1 hour each week

KCUYC can customize projects for your group or missions team. Opportunities may include landscaping or yard work, planting, painting, cleaning or more. In addition, a variety of opportunities are available for your group to conduct in-kind drives that benefit the youth at KCUYC. Please e-mail volunteer@kcurbanyouthcenter.org for more information.

Youth are not just the focus of KCUYC's work, they are also welcomed volunteers! For specific information and age requirements on youth service opportunities, please e-mail volunteer@kcurbanyouthcenter.org.

KCUYC has several programs that would particularly benefit from the unique education and skills offered by teachers and education professionals. Help tutor youth in reading, math or other subjects. Expertise in program planning and development is also needed. Some paid positions available. E-mail volunteer@kcurbanyouthcenter.org for more information.

Looking for a meaningful opportunity to build real-world experience in the areas of youth development, fundraising or volunteer management? Spend a semester working alongside the staff at KCUYC. Faith Village Options, a non-profit organization located in the Kansas City metro, donates an hour each Monday to prepare 45-50 sack lunches for KCUYC students. While making PB&J sandwiches may not seem like a big deal, it is a HUGE help to staff . . . and much-appreciated by hungry KCUYC students!

Be at least 16 years old

Reside in the Kansas City metro area

Be interested in working with young people

Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures

Be willing to complete the application and screening process

Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments

Attend mentor training sessions as prescribed

Be willing to communicate regularly with
program staff, submit activity information, and
receive constructive feedback regarding mentoring
activities

Have a clean criminal history

No use of illicit drugs

No use of alcohol or controlled substances in an inappropriate manner

Not currently in treatment for substance abuse and have a non-addictive period of at least five years

Not currently in treatment for a mental disorder or hospitalized for such in the past three years
