KCUYC Summer Camps and Programs

This summer, the Kansas City Urban Youth Center is proud to be engaging and investing in student leaders at two sites: Our original site at Courtyard Apartments, as well as our newest site at East Hills Village Apartments. Both locations will be a part of 2008 summer camps and programs, but even more exciting, is that with this year’s KCUYC camps, a new group of leaders will be emerging as we launch the KCUYC Junior Leadership Team. The Junior Leadership Team will be made up of a group of middle school students who will receive character and leadership training for the summer in preparation for a future paid position on Senior Leadership Team.

Throughout the KCUYC’s Summer Camp, the students will promote and sell produce from the Youth Center Garden Market (grown in partnership with the KCUYC community garden). Campers will also benefit from preparing presentations and engaging in the community with community-wide social justice issues.

The camp will culminate in a service learning trip to Oklahoma City. Campers will have the opportunity to serve the homeless, visit the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, visit a university campus, and learn about Native American culture.

If you are interested in volunteering with our program this summer, check out our schedule at www.kcurbanyouthcenter.org/calendar.htm. You can also email us at volunteer@kcurbanyouthcenter.org and we will be in contact with you to put you to work with our staff and students!
