Student Rap Group Premier on KCUYC Stage: Introducing 816 Swaggerz

Monthly Friday Community Nights provide an opportunity to bring all the students, staff, volunteers, family, and friends together for fellowship, food, and fun. One Friday evening in February was particularly special when 7th grade student, DeAndre, otherwise known as "Tripl3 Thr3at," took the stage with his rap group "816 Swaggerz." They performed three songs from their upcoming CD "Paid N Full." One of the songs, entitled "Dear Mama," was dedicated to his mother, who watched on proudly from the audience.

This performance provided a special celebration to kick-off our spring semester and marked the first time that both KCUYC program sites came together for a large community fellowship in 2009. All in all there were over 70 students, volunteers, friends, and family gathered for the evening. The support of the larger community for our students was evident when DeAndre's school principal, vice-principal, teachers, and a school board member, attended the evening to support the group. It is always great to come together as a community and support the creativity of our young leaders!
